About

About our name

Make West Drayton Wonderful is an obvious riff on MAGA and the entire “make [x] great again” format; however it is very distinctly *not* MAGA. The past is the past and we can’t go back to how things were. Instead, we’re committed to small, realistic, positive actions that will help make West Drayton a wonderful place to be in the here and now.

Our origin story

This collective was created in direct response to Hillingdon Says No, a local movement whose purpose is allegedly to stand against illegal immigration and HMOs, and to stand for national pride. So far, they have done this by organising local marches and protests and demonstrating outside local hotels.

Calling for a reduction in immigration and protesting government policy is not inherently problematic, but astute observers will notice that there are a number of parallels between Hillingdon Says No and other groups with thinly veiled intent such as Operation Raise the Colours. The tipping point that pushed us to organise was a poster advertising a march taking place on 22nd November 2025, with Nick Tenconi, prominent Christian nationalist and leader of UKIP.

You’d be forgiven for not recognising knowing who he is, but one of his more well known moments is the nazi salute he decided to throw out very publicly at an anti-immigration demonstration in Portsmouth in August 2025.

Although there’s been some attempt to discredit this interpretation of his gesture, it’s more than a little coincidental that it was accompanied by the song L’Amour Toujours, which was banned from being played at Munich’s Oktoberfest in 2024 by the organisers and banned by the Austrian Football Association due to its adoption by far-right extremists. Right wing political views are fine, but we should never tolerate hateful behaviour in our communities. Seeing Hillingdon Says No advertise a special guest appearance from this man and a number of locals supporting and welcoming his involvement got some serious alarm bells ringing.

In the same way that Make West Drayton Wonderful is not MAGA, we are also not Hillingdon Says Yes. Although they were the catalyst for setting this up, we don’t exist solely as a form of counter protest. We’re here to try and do some good in the world around us, and we will continue working to do good long after any hateful groups have faded into obscurity.
